Russia's war: a military disaster?

Written on .

Russia's attack on Ukraine is a military disaster according to General Thierry Burkhard (CEMA).
The CEMA is the acronym for Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, the highest position in the army. The CEMA is the general in charge, the one with the most stars and who commands all our military forces.

At a hearing of the French Defense Commission, he declared that “Russia's attack on Ukraine is a military disaster.”

And with good reason.

After 3 years of war, Russia is still far from Kiev.

Of course, we helped bring about this disaster by providing massive aid to Ukraine, which would otherwise have been defeated in a matter of days.

But it remains a disaster.

It was also a disaster when Sweden and Norway joined NATO, turning the Baltic into a “NATO lake” and condemning the Black Sea and the Russian navy as a whole.

The same goes for the Port of St. Petersburg, which accounts for 60% of Russian maritime traffic and would de facto come under the control of Nato navies if we so wished.

Over and above the deep-rooted causes of this conflict, which the “West” has fuelled by blowing on the embers, this Russian military adventure is a failure for Putin and for Russia.

Russia poses no threat to the European Union.

Not so simple.

Russia is demonstrating a form of restraint insofar as we remain in a classic, conventional conflict. Russia could have recourse to nuclear weapons, particularly tactical weapons, for example, to enable its armored forces to regain interest and usefulness on the battlefield, with drones neutralizing armored weapons and the possibility of large-scale movements.

It's already too late, but all is not lost.

Get ready!
